A bottle bomb happens when a bottle of beer is overprimed. Excess priming can cause the yeast to create more CO2 than can be handled by the bottle's strength and shatter the bottle. Other causes of bottle bombs is bottling before the beer had fully attenuated or if the beer has an infection.
