Oatmeal is an ingredient used in the mash for an all grain brew. Typically used in oatmeal stouts, adding oatmeal to the mash of a brew adds smoothness and texture to the beer. Using oatmeal risks having a stuck sparge, something which brewers attempt to avoid through the use of rice hulls. Quick oats are recommended for use as they have already been roasted.
