pH is a scale used to measure the overall acidity or alkalinity of a solution based on the relative concentration of hydronium cations and hydroxide anions.  A pH of 7 is considered neutral. Low numbers represent an acidic solution and high numbers represent a basic or alkaline solution.  pH is measured on a logarithmic scale.
