Several manufacturers sell sugar tablets that can be used to add a measured amount of priming sugar directly to each bottle, eliminating the need to mix priming sugar with the beer in a bottling bucket.

There are two brands commonly available to home brewers:

  • Cooper's Carbonation Drops are larger chunks of sugar. One drop is enough to carbonate a 12 ounce bottle; two are used for a 22 ounce bottle. These are convenient, but can sometimes be too large to fit easily into small bottles and really only allow one level of carbonation.
  • Munton's CarbTabs are smaller sugar pills; 3 to 5 are used for a 12 ounce bottle depending on the desired level of carbonation. CarbTabs also contain a heading agent.
