Given the strong coffee-like flavors of some traditional brewing grains, it's not surprising that some brewers have tried brewing with the real thing. Although a relatively recent development, the Coffee Stout or Breakfast Stout has become somewhat of a tradition among American brewers, especially in the Pacific Northwest, where beer and coffee are both taken very seriously.

While stout is the most common base beer, other brewers have tried their hand at a Specialty Coffee Beer using other beers as a coffee complement as well.
