Sometimes incorrectly considered a beer style, a Church Ale or Church-ale was a traditional celebration held as a fund-raiser by English parish churches up until the 17th century. Similar secular celebrations were held by some cities and towns, and the Bride Ale (the source of the modern word "Bridal") was a similar fund-raiser thrown by newly married couples.
