Early brewing trials indicate that First Gold is an extremely exciting prospect. The variety is very suitable both as a general kettle hop and also for late and dry hopping in all types of beer. First Gold has excellent aroma qualities and much of the flavour character of [[Whitbread Goldings Variety|WGV]] seems to have been retained, producing a well-balanced bitterness and a fruity, slightly spicy note in ales. Considerable areas of First Gold are being planned and there is significant interest already from Britain's traditional ale brewers.

This article discusses a specific variety of hops. For general information about selecting, using or propogating hops, see the main hop page

Derived from Whitbread Goldings Variety and a dwarf male, First Gold was one of the first Hedgerow hop varieties available to the home and commercial brewers. It combines good bittering properties with a woody, minty flavor and aroma that has been compared to WGV and to Fuggle.

Considerable areas of First Gold are being planned and there is significant interest already from Britain's traditional ale brewers for bittering and for late and dry hopping.
