The Hallertau is an area between Munich and Nuernburg (general region of Bavaria). It is the largest area of hop production in Europe. The Hallertau produces two main types of hops: Hersbrucker and [[Northern Brewer]]. The Hersbrucker is often called Hallertau, but really these hops should be distinguished. There is a variety properly called Hallertau, which formed the stock of the American Hallertau hop.
